Cape Town - The bail application by taxi driver Jacob Humphreys, who killed 10 schoolchildren at a level crossing last year, was denied on Friday by the Western Cape High Court.
Humphreys lawyer contended in the application this week that the taxi driver was not a flight risk nor was he at risk of being attacked by the community.
The Supreme Court of Appeal recently granted Humphreys leave to appeal both his conviction and 20 year jail sentencing.
While taking children to school, Humphreys overtook a row of cars, ignored safety signals, and proceeded over the tracks at a Cape Town train station.
A train hit the taxi, killing 10 of the children. Four others were seriously injured.
