Husband killed, toddler shot in Durbanville robbery

Cape Town - A man was shot and killed while his child was hit in the stomach during an armed robbery in Durbanville on Saturday.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana, three suspects allegedly pretending to be police officials in civilian clothing hit the house while a woman and her child were home alone.

It is alleged that the robbers forced the wife to phone her husband and tell him their child is sick.

“When the husband arrived at home, the suspects shot the husband in the head and the child in the stomach. They then took the deceased’s firearm, a Norinco 9mm,” he said.

No clarity with regard to the circumstances leading up to the shots being fired was immediately available.

The 36-year-old mother and her 21-month-old child were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

“The circumstances surrounding this incident are currently under investigation and no arrest [has been] made at this stage,” Kinana added.
