Johannesburg - A fire at a building in central Johannesburg has been extinguished, emergency services said on Tuesday.
"The fire has been managed... it has been put out. We are now just ensuring that it doesn't re-ignite," spokesperson Nana Radebe said.
She said no-one was unaccounted for.
The building, which was thought to be abandoned, was in Jeppe Street, next to a KFC outlet.
Radebe said, however, that first responders at the scene reported seeing people running out of the building.
She said firefighters were going through the building to see if anyone was trapped inside.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
Radebe said earlier that the fire appeared to affect the seventh to the 10th or 12th floor of the building.
