Joburg taxi drivers nabbed for driving on wrong side of road

Johannesburg - Metro police arrested eight taxi drivers on Friday morning for driving on the wrong side of the road.

Johannesburg Metro Police Department Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said another three taxi drivers were fined R1 000 each for negligent driving in an operation on Jan Smuts Avenue.

"Eight drivers were also arrested for driving on the wrong side of the road," he said.

It has become a habit for taxi drivers to drive into oncoming traffic if lanes moved too slowly in the mornings.

Minnaar vowed that metro cops would continue to clamp down "until taxi drivers refrain from driving on the wrong side of the road during peak morning traffic".
