KZN premier's office warns of fake social media accounts

Durban - The office of KwaZulu-Natal Premier Senzo Mchunu has joined the list of officials and government departments who have had fake social media accounts created in their names.

The office of the premier warned on Tuesday that there were a number of fake Facebook and Twitter accounts purporting to be its office.

"The premier’s office condemns the use of its good name to spread malicious rumours and lies," it said in a statement.

"The photographs used in all these fake accounts have been illicitly obtained."

The official accounts for the premier's office were: Twitter @kzngov and Facebook www.facebook.com/kznonline.

In the past there have been fake social media accounts claiming to be those of former deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe, Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande, National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete and Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene.
