Johannesburg - The KwaZulu-Natal High Court in Pietermaritzburg has sentenced two rapists to two life sentences each for rape and robbery, police said on Wednesday.
Eric Baphelele Makhanya, 36, and Msawakhe Tasolo Ndlovu, 36, were convicted and sentenced on Tuesday, after pleading guilty to both charges, police spokesperson Jay Naicker said.
On 5 June this year, around 22:45 at Eston, a 28-year-old woman was asleep in her home. She had forgotten to lock the door.
Makhanya and Ndlovu woke her up demanding money.
"They covered her face with a pillow, blanket, ransacked her home, stole a laptop and two cellphones before raping her," Naicker said.
Following a tip-off, Makhanya and Ndlovu were arrested in the Umbumbulu area.
"The suspects pleaded guilty to all the charges and were convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment each for rape and as well as life imprisonment for robbery."
