Durban – EFF leader Julius Malema on Friday urged students to vote out the existing SRC and replace them with EFF members.
Speaking at the Durban University of Technology, he said student representative councils led by the ANC aligned SA Students Congress had a habit of organising bashes instead of helping poor students.
"Education of our society is at the centre of the liberation of our society."
He insisted that education needed to be free and that the country with all its resources could afford to provide free education to all its citizens.
Malema received a rousing welcome when he entered lecture hall packed with an estimated 400 people.
He again repeated his call for the nationalisation of minerals.
"We are the ones who remain without land. Once we own the natural and mineral resources we can afford everything."
He accused the ruling elite of having benefited from selling off of assets that had been nationalised by the former apartheid government.
"Africans are not your problem. Your problem is the ANC. If you need to beat up someone go to the penthouse in Johannesburg called Luthuli House," he said.
He said that the ANC had failed to show leadership and this failure had exacerbated the xenophobic attacks.
Malema received loud cheers when he said an EFF-led government would introduce trade barriers that would make imports expensive.
He said the elimination of trade tariff had raised unemployment in the country.
"You are creating jobs for people in other countries," he said.
"Anything white people [overseas] can do, we can do," he said.
He said South Africa had become a dumping ground for other countries unwanted products, criticising the government for not creating incentives for young people to develop products that could be manufactured.
He labelled the ANC leadership "lazy thinkers" and that: "Every time they go out [of the country] they sign something."
He said that trade deals signed by the government had weakened the country.
