Durban - Police are in the process of tracing the relatives of an elderly British couple who was attacked in their Knysna home on Sunday.
A woman, 65, was killed in the attack and her husband, 67, remains in a serious condition in a George hospital.
Police spokesperson Captain Bernadine Steyn said the couple had been found in their Lindsay Road home by a friend who had noticed their dog wandering in the street.
The lifeless body of a woman was discovered in the house.
"SAPS members arrived at the scene shortly after 10:00 and discovered the body of an elderly woman on the floor in the sitting room. She had an open wound on her neck, as well as injuries to her head," Steyn said.
"Her husband was found in the garage with open wounds to his body and head injuries, which appear to have been inflicted using blunt objects. He is currently in a serious state."
"Follow-up investigations confirmed that the 65-year-old deceased and her husband are both British citizens. Their names cannot be released at this stage as police are in the process of tracing and making contact with their families."
