Polokwane - The deadline for adjusting Limpopo's L letter vehicle licence plates has been extended by two years, the transport department said.
The final deadline for vehicle owners to change from the old N to L plates is August 2016.
The department had been struggling to have its new licence plates standardised by the SA Bureau of Standards.
The change to L came into effect when the province's name changed from Northern Province to Limpopo in 2003.
Transport MEC Mapula Mokaba-Phokwana said the department had met Transport Minister Dipuo Peters to discuss the standardisation.
She said there were fraudulent activities related to the issuing of the L licence plates and the plates did not comply with national requirements.
She said when the standardisation was finalised, notices would be published in the government gazette.
Mokaba-Phokwana said the national department would issue specifications and guidelines to be followed.
The department said the new logo, featuring a baobab tree, played a crucial part in managing the province's brand.
