Maimane tweets extract of Nkandla report

Cape Town - DA leader Mmusi Maimane tweeted a photo of a page from the police minister's report on the upgrades at President Jacob Zuma's private home in Nkandla ahead of its release to the media later on Thursday.

“This is at my desk now. Working through it now,” tweeted Maimane after Zuma lambasted the opposition for being fixated on the report during his appearance at Parliament on Wednesday.

“As expected the minister of police who works for President Zuma has determined that he does not owe us a cent,” tweeted Maimane with a picture of an extract related to the visitors' centre.

According to the extract he tweeted, the report said that meetings required “protocol” and “physical and information security”.

“Therefore the visitors' centre is in this regard a security feature.

“Accordingly therefore the State President is not liable to pay for any of these security features.

“The outstanding security-related work at Nkandla should be funded and completed expeditiously, including the re-evaluation of the current physical security measures...

''Both the SIU and Parliamentary Committee report alluded to the urgent need for a new security evaluation to be conducted at the President's residence in Nkandla.

The report on the R246m worth of security upgrades at his private home is expected to be released by Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko later on Thursday.
