Johannesburg - Gauteng Premier David Makhura on Monday met the families of three children murdered near Reiger Park on the East Rand.
He was preceded by a convoy of black BMWs and police vehicles as he travelled through the area on Monday.
In Ramaphosa settlement, near Reiger Park, Makhura met the family of 3-year-old Cuburne Lavone van Wyk, three, whose burnt body was found at a mine dump in August.
His alleged killer Nathaniel Katlego Mpoku, 25, appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on 31 October. The case was postponed to 10 December.
The area around the family's home was a hive of activity as curious onlookers braved a midday drizzle to witness the proceedings.
Some stood on rocks and sat on the roofs of vehicles so they could get a better view.
Makhura then made his way a few kilometres down the street to the home of Siphamandla Madikane, 10, whose half-naked body was found in a field in Ramaphosa in November last year.
"The boy was found dead with socks stuffed in his mouth and a used condom was found next to his body," police spokesperson Tsekiso Mofokeng said at the time.
As Makhura headed inside the house to meet the family in private, a group of children assembled at the entrance.
Music could be heard blasting from a spaza shop just metres away from the house.
Earlier on Monday, Makhura visited the family home of Taegrin Morris in Delmore Gardens, near Reiger Park.
The 4-year-old was killed when his parents' Volkswagen Golf was hijacked in Reiger Park, Boksburg, in July.
The boy was caught in his seatbelt and was dragged along the road as the hijackers drove off. The car was later abandoned.
Earlier in November, the Boksburg Magistrate's Court
withdrew all charges against Thamsanqa Twala, who had been accused of
involvement in the death of the child.
