Cape Town - A man was stabbed to death on Saturday morning after allegedly threatening to rape a woman in her King William's Town home.
The woman’s husband - who apparently overpowered the intruder, killing him with his own weapon - has been arrested for the man’s murder.
Police spokesperson Captain Jackson Manatha said the 27-year-old man arrived at his home from an event at about 04:00 and knocked at the front door.
“He heard his wife crying and when he [asked why], she replied that there was a man inside the house who wanted to rape [her],” he said.
The husband then kicked the door open and found the man inside the house, Manatha continued.
“The deceased tried to stab the husband, but the husband overpowered the 22-year-old man. He grabbed the knife and stabbed the deceased on his upper body.”
The man died instantly, he said.
“The police were called and the husband was arrested. Police also recovered the knife.”
Manatha said it had not yet been ascertained how the deceased had gained access to the house.
The husband will appear in the Butterworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday on a murder charge.
“The deceased will be identified once his next of kin are informed of his death,” Manatha added.
