Johannesburg - The man who made allegations on Facebook that late Public Service and Administration Minister Collins Chabane was assassinated has been arrested, Limpopo police said on Wednesday.
Thembani Chabane was taken in for questioning earlier in the day, spokesperson Ronel Otto said.
"Initially when he put the messages on Facebook we opened an inquiry, but after discussions with the senior prosecutor it was decided that the inquiry should be changed to criminal charges," she said.
Thembani Chabane, who reportedly claimed to be relative of Collins Chabane, was expected to appear in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Thursday.
Chabane and two bodyguards, Sergeants Lesiba Sekele and Lawrence Lentsoane, were killed when a truck allegedly made a U-turn in front of their car on the N1 near Polokwane in Limpopo last month.
The truck driver, Amukelani Rikhotso, appeared in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Tuesday and was granted R5 000 bail.
