Man arrested for stolen car after high-speed chase

Johannesburg - A man was arrested for alleged possession of a stolen car in Jabulani, Soweto, Gauteng police said on Monday.

Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said police picked up a tracker signal on a routine patrol for a stolen car on Sunday night.

They spotted the car and when they tried to stop it the driver sped off.

A high-speed chase ensued, the driver lost control, and crashed into a school fence.

"The suspect, aged 32, was found trapped inside. He was arrested and he will appear soon at the Protea Magistrate's Court,” said Makhubela.

He said the car was reported stolen earlier this month at the Linden police station in Randburg.

The man was among 193 people arrested in Soweto at the weekend.

Other people were arrested for various crimes, including sexual offences, driving under the influence of alcohol, and drug-related crimes.
