Man due in court for allegedly beating daughter to death

Cape Town - A Hanover Park man is expected to appear in the Athlone Magistrate's Court in Cape Town on Monday for allegedly beating his 2-year-old daughter to death.

On Friday, Western Cape police said Christopher Williams was arrested on Thursday night in Vygieskraal in Athlone, and was being detained on a charge of murder.

The toddler was declared dead at the Hanover Park Day Hospital the previous Friday. 

At the time, police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said it was not known why and how the child was beaten.

According to a police source, the post mortem found the child had been severely beaten.

“It was so brutal the child was swollen from the face to her legs,” the source said.

Williams is alleged to be a gangster.
