Man held for Bryanston stabbing

Johannesburg - A man was arrested in Pietermaritzburg on Tuesday in connection with the stabbing of a woman in Bryanston, Johannesburg, Gauteng police said.

"The suspect was on the run following the murder of a woman on Saturday afternoon at the corner of Peter Place and Karen Street, Bryanston," police spokesperson Tsekiso Mofokeng said.

The 42-year-old would appear in the Randburg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday.

The woman was found around 17:00 on Saturday by a passer-by after being stabbed multiple times.

On Sunday, ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak said the woman, believed to be in her late 30s, died after being stabbed about 50 times.

"It is understood that another woman and her child were driving along Peter Place when the child noticed [the woman] lying near a boom gate at an office park," Vermaak said.

"Paramedics found the injured woman barely responsive and breathing. Paramedics indicated that she [the victim] lost a vast amount of blood and counted approximately 50 stab wounds on her body."

Vermaak said the woman was rushed to the Medi-Clinic Sandton for further care, but she died.

Beeld newspaper reported that she told the woman who had stopped to help her and that it was her husband who had stabbed her.

The Star on Tuesday reported that the woman was stabbed on the premises of a Sandton company by her husband.

The man, believed to be her husband, reportedly did not arrive for work on Monday.

Blood had to be cleaned off the walls and floor of the office, according to the paper.
