Man killed after truck tyre bursts

Johannesburg - A man was killed after the tyre of a truck burst as he was trying to change it on the R54 near Fochville, paramedics said on Saturday.

The incident happened on Friday night, said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

"It is understood that the man was changing the truck tyre when it exploded, causing the tyre rim to collide with the patient’s skull," Meiring said in a statement.

Paramedics arrived on the scene and found him lying in a pool of blood next to the truck.

"On assessment, paramedics found that the patient had sustained severe injuries to his head and legs and was in a critical condition," said Meiring.

The man was treated on scene and then transported to the Mediclinic Potchefstroom for further treatment.

He died in hospital.
