Durban – A Durban man shot and killed two robbers during an attempted hijacking on Bulbul Drive in Silverglen, Chatsworth on Wednesday morning, police said.
KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Jay Naicker said the criminals started with a house robbery at 10:30 on Wednesday where a complainant was allegedly attacked at his home at Riversdale Road. Three armed men entered his home and stole household items before fleeing the scene.
The robbers then allegedly approached another resident at his home on Bulbul Drive and demanded his vehicle keys.
“They allegedly fired at the complainant and he returned fire, fatally wounding two of the men. Two suspects were pronounced dead at the scene and one is at large,” said Naicker.
He said items taken from the robbery at Riversdale Road were recovered in the deceased’s possession.
Naicker said whilst police were at the scene in Bulbul Drive, two men attempted to rob another resident on Riversdale Road.
“The victim opened fire on the men who then fled into the dense vegetation bordering the homes. Police immediately dispatched members of the K9 Unit, Visible Policing as well as the Airwing too hunt for the men, however, they were not successful. It is not clear if the two were part of the group that were killed on Bulbul Drive,” said Naicker.
