Durban - A man was shot in the parking lot of Durban's Suncoast Casino on Wednesday and robbed of R150 000.
A News24 reporter at the scene was told that the man had apparently withdrawn R150 000 from the Standard Bank in Kingsmead and then followed to the casino where he was accosted by a group of men.
It is understood that they tried to stab him, but when he resisted they shot him in the arm and the leg. The robbers made off with some of the money and an unknown amount was found in the man's car.
Crisis Medical spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said: "He sustained two gunshot wounds and was in a stable condition. He was taken to St Augustine's Hospital.”
Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane confirmed the incident.
“It alleged that the victim came from the bank and went to Suncoast Casino Hotel parking where he was accosted by three suspects,” he said.
"They allegedly shot him and he was injured and taken to hospital for treatment. The suspects took an undisclosed amount of cash before they fled the scene. No arrests have been made.”
Suncoast spokeseperson Nicole East said: “We can confirm that a visitor to Suncoast was robbed outside the hotel earlier today by men who appeared to have followed him from a bank in Kingsmead. Police and emergency services were called to the scene immediately.
“The gentleman who was shot is currently in a stable condition and receiving medical treatment,” she said.
