Man who claims Chabane was assassinated in court

Polokwane - The man who made allegations on Facebook that late Public Service and Administration Minister Collins Chabane was assassinated will appear in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Thursday.

Thembani Chabane, who reportedly claimed to be a relative of Collins Chabane, appeared on April 2 and was released by Magistrate Mohamed Shaik on a warning.

Limpopo police said after his arrest that Thembani Chabane was initially just taken in for questioning.

"Initially when he put the messages on Facebook we opened an inquiry, but after discussions with the senior prosecutor it was decided that the inquiry should be changed to criminal charges," Colonel Ronel Otto said.

Chabane and two bodyguards, Sergeants Lesiba Sekele and Lawrence Lentsoane, were killed when a truck allegedly made a U-turn in front of their car on the N1 near Polokwane in March.
