Pretoria - Police have launched a manhunt for an armed gang who robbed three Congolese nationals - shooting and injuring one - outside the luxury Sheraton Hotel in Pretoria on Wednesday night.
The suspects, driving a silver Audi A3, robbed the guests of their luggage, two laptops and four cellphones at around 20:00, Gauteng police spokesperson Mack Mngomezulu said.
The three Congolese nationals were arriving at the hotel from OR Tambo International Airport when the incident happened.
"Before they could enter the hotel premises, they were confronted by the suspects," Mngomezulu said.
"The suspects fired several shots at them and wounded one in the upper body."
Earlier, paramedics said they attended to a shooting at the hotel on the corner of Wessels and Church Street.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said when paramedics and police arrived on the scene, the wounded man was found in the reception area of the hotel.
He had been shot in the head.
"When paramedics assessed the patient, they found him in a serious condition yet fully conscious," said Meiring.
The man was treated on the scene before being taken to Muelmed Hospital.
The Sheraton Hotel is situated in Arcadia, Pretoria and boasts a "splendid view over Pretoria's famous Union Buildings, official seat of South Africa's government".
Comment from the hotel was not immediately available.
