Bloemfontein – More than a million Free State residents will be left in the dark as Eskom goes ahead with the suspension of bulk electricity supply on Friday, according to reports.
OFM News reported on Thursday that three Free State municipalities, who failed to provide tangible payment plans to Eskom, would be affect by the blackouts.
Eskom spokesperson Adri Strydom told OFM News that before the disconnections were decided, due process was followed.
DA MP James Letuka said cumulatively the municipalities of Ngwathe, Dihlabeng and Maluti-a-Phofung owed R736m to the electricity supplier.
“Eskom has also made public that it has initiated the process to suspend bulk electricity supply to the Matjhabeng municipality for the same reasons of non-payment,” he said in statement.
