Rustenburg - Amcu president Joseph Mathunjwa arrived to a rousing welcome at the Nkaneng informal settlement in Wonderkop near Marikana in North West on Saturday.
A crowd of about 12 000 rose and sang the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) leader's praises.
Mathunjwa, EFF leader Julius Malema and DA parliamentary leader Mmusi Maimane were expected to address the crowd.
Saturday marked two years since the police opened fire on striking mineworkers, killing 34 of them.
Ten other people, including two police officers and two
security guards were killed in strike-related violence in the preceding week.
