Pietermaritzburg - Two men were each sentenced to life in prison for two murders, including that of a police officer, by the KwaZulu-Natal High Court sitting in the Mthunzini Magistrate's Court, provincial police said on Friday.

Sanele Chonco and Xolani Khumalo, both 26, were each handed life sentences plus 30 years for the murders, robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, Colonel Jay Naicker said.

They killed Constable Mesula Mavimbela and robbed him of his Toyota Verso and service pistol on 14 December 2012. Mavimbela was found dead in a donga in the Ekuvukeni area.
