Middelburg murder accused gets bail

Johannesburg - A woman accused of murdering her partner was on Monday granted bail of R10 000 in the Middelburg Magistrate's Court, according to a report on Tuesday.

Ronell Botma and six other defendants face charges including murder and conspiracy to commit murder after the death of Tiziano Ciciliato, who was stabbed and bludgeoned to death in his Middelburg home.

The seven accused appeared in court last Thursday, and again on Monday, when Botma, her housekeeper, Annah Mokwana, 51, and Mokwana's sister, Dinah, 45, made a formal bail application.

Bail of R5 000 and R1 000 was granted to Annah and Dinah respectively.

The case against the male accused - Mbuso Khoza, 29, Henry Chego, 29, Doctor Jacob Tlou, 30, and Tsietsi Letsebe, 34 - was postponed, and they were ordered to remain in detention.

Magistrate Hans Combrink said Botma was not a flight risk. Although her oldest daughter Vicky lived in South Korea, Botma was inlikely to go there, as she would need a work permit.

Botma was also not a danger to the community, Combrink found. Josef Clemens, Botma's attorney, said she had a 14-year-old daughter, Rozaan, to take care of.

The case was postponed to 7 March.
