Johannesburg - The body of a 20-year-old man that went missing while swimming in Jeffreys Bay in the Eastern Cape, was found on Saturday, the national sea rescue institute said.
Spokesperson Craig Lambinon said that the body was discovered washed up on a beach just outside Jeffrey's bay on Saturday morning.
Police and the NSRI attended the scene.
"The body of an adult male, believed to be that of a 20-year-old Johannesburg man who went missing on Tuesday, at Jeffreys Bay while swimming, was recovered from the beach," he said.
"The body of the deceased man has been handed into the care of the Forensic Pathology Services."
The family of the man were assisted by trauma counsellors and formal positive identification will be held in conjunction with the police, he said.
The man had allegedly been caught in rip currents at Main Beach on Tuesday evening.
"A surfer had gone to his rescue but the man had disappeared under water before the surfer could reach him," Lambinon said in a statement at the time.
NSRI personnel had conducted extensive searches following his disappearance, but without success.
