Johannesburg - The mother of one of the victims of alleged serial rapist Peter Dashboy Khoza has testified how her daughter emerged on to a freeway during a search, wearing nothing below the waist.
"She had grass in her hair and she was no longer wearing the trousers of her pyjamas," said Amanda's* mother.
"The police found the trousers of the pyjamas and they were full of blood."
Her daughter was only wearing her pyjama top. The mother said that at that time, in May 2013, her daughter had not yet started menstruating.
"And from that time Amanda was never well," her mother testified in the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court sitting as the High Court in Johannesburg.
She was testifying at the trial of Khoza, who has pleaded not guilty to 39 charges of kidnapping, 37 charges of rape, 37 charges of grievous bodily harm, 11 charges of sexual assault, 27 charges of attempted murder and five charges of theft.
Amanda's mother told of how she was told by Amanda's friends that her daughter and a friend had last been seen in the company of a man who had wanted to know where to buy milk.
Amanda's mother said they went to the house where milk was sold, and by that stage, there was a group of community members who had all agreed to form a search party for the girls.
She noted that Amanda had changed into her pyjamas before she had gone out to play that afternoon.
They went to "the big trees", which she described as a "very scary place", and sat on the ground hoping her daughter would appear.
Between six to eight police vehicles took part in the search around Slovo Park in Eldorado Park Area.
"They were shouting for her, calling out her name, but there was no response. We looked for her the whole night."
It was only the following morning - when some of Amanda's friends, who had joined the search party - shouted that she had seen the girls.
The girls were asked to show the police where they had been taken and because Amanda did not have her shoes, her friend Belinda* lent her hers, and she piggy-backed her friend to the spot where she says she was raped.
Earlier, the court heard that the man had approached them while they were playing, asking where he could buy milk and claiming that the shop he had visited did not have change.
Amanda testified that he took them into a secluded area, pulled out a knife and made her friend lie down while he raped her. She said he raped her again later, after making her smear Vaseline on his penis, and after smearing Vaseline on her friend.
She claimed that the Vaseline was doctored with something that made them behave like idiots. She later also said that he said he wanted to marry her.
Although Amanda appeared to not understand numbers, time and age, her mother said she was 17 now, which would have made her 13 at the time of the alleged rape.
The case was postponed to Friday for another witness to take the stand.
