Johannesburg – Seven new small claims courts have been established in three provinces.
One would be in the Port St Johns, Eastern Cape. KwaZulu-Natal would get three: in Utrecht, Newcastle, and Ndwedwe. The other three would be in the Western Cape towns of Robertson, Montagu and Swellendam.
Deputy Justice and Constitutional Minister John Jeffery published the notice establishing them in a recent Government Gazette.
Small claims courts allow people to institute civil proceedings for claims not exceeding R15 000, without needing to use an attorney.
