Johannesburg - Roland Mqwebu made his mark as an actor, Communications Minister Faith Muthambi said on Friday.
She sent her condolences to Mqwebu's family. The actor died at the age of 78 on Friday morning.
Known for his role as Mkhize in SABC1’s sitcom Emzini Wezinsizwa, he died from renal failure at eThekwini Hospital and Heart Centre.
His daughter, Andile Mqwebu, 31, said her father had been ill for some time.
"Emzini Wezinsizwa was a household name and enjoyed high viewership ratings on SABC," Muthambi said in a statement.
"We wish his family, friends and colleagues strength during this difficult time. Our hearts are with them."
He leaves four children and his wife Pinky Mqwebu.
