Johannesburg - ANC MP Jackson Mthembu remains in the intensive care unit of a Witbank hospital after being shot and wounded in an armed robbery, the ruling party said on Wednesday.
"He is recuperating well," ANC spokesperson Khusela Sangoni said.
"He is still in hospital in ICU, but he seems to be strong."
Mthembu was shot while withdrawing money from an ATM on Mandela Street, Witbank, on Sunday evening.
On Monday evening, ANC spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said Mthembu got into a scuffle with the armed robber and a shot was fired. The bullet grazed his cheek and hit him in the shoulder.
Police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala said after the shot went off, the armed man and three accomplices went to Mthembu's car, where four of Mthembu's friends were waiting. Mthembu and his friends were robbed of their money and cellphones.
Three people were arrested the following evening in Tzaneen, Limpopo, for possession of suspected stolen property and were questioned over the Mthembu robbery.
Mohlala said earlier that the three had not yet been
linked to the crime and the investigation was continuing.
