Mystery surrounds body found in burning car

Durban - Mystery surrounds the discovery of a body in the boot of a burning car on Malacca Road in Durban North late on Thursday night.

The charred remains were discovered once the blaze was extinguished by firefighters.

Crisis Medical spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said paramedics had received a report of a car ablaze and had rushed to the scene.

“We arrived and found that the car was still well alight and eThekwini Metro firefighters, who had also arrived, managed to douse the blaze.”

“On searching the car our personnel found human remains in the boot of the vehicle, which had been burnt beyond recognition. So extensive were the burns that we have been unable to establish whether or not the body was male or female,” he said.

“The scene was handed over to the police for further investigation. The cause of the incident is unclear,” Van Reenen added.

Police spokespeople were not immediately available for comment.
