NPA confirms Meyiwa murder suspect in court

Johannesburg - The NPA has confirmed that a man appeared in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court on Friday in connection with the murder of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa.

"The man, Zanokuhle Mbatha... is facing a charge of murder and robbery of Mr Senzo Meyiwa," NPA spokesperson Nathi Mncube said.

"He will appear in court again on 11 November for a formal application for legal aid."

Mncube said he did not know when the man was arrested.

Meyiwa, who was also the Orlando Pirates captain, was killed when two attackers entered his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo's house around 20:00 on Sunday.

They apparently demanded cellphones and money. One cellphone was stolen. The men then fled the scene on foot.
