Pretoria - The foreman on a private game reserve outside Cullinan, east of Pretoria, has been beaten to death, police said on Thursday.
Five armed men entered the premises on Tuesday night and approached the house where the 52-year-old man and his girlfriend stayed, Captain Marissa van der Merwe said.
"They forced the door open and got hold of him and attacked him with a spade and stones.
"Because of injuries to his head he passed away on the scene later in the night," she said.
The man's girlfriend had been hiding under the bed and called the police.
The owner of the reserve did not live on the premises and only came on weekends.
After beating the man the suspects broke into the main house and stole all the electrical appliances and then fled the scene, Van der Merwe said.
No arrests have been made.
