Johannesburg - No arrests have yet been made in the robbery and murder of a man, whose girlfriend was also attacked, in Northwold, Johannesburg, Gauteng police said.
"For now, there is a case that Honeydew detectives are investigating, [being] house robbery and murder," spokesperson Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs said.
"The victim reportedly passed away yesterday [Sunday]."
Jacobs said police could not name the man as not all his family had been notified.
On Monday, Beeld newspaper named the man as 35-year-old Jan Byles Junior.
Jacobs said it was believed that the robbery and murder happened just after midnight, in the early hours of Friday morning.
"The incident took place in Northwold, in the Honeydew area. The deceased and his girlfriend were at the premise. He was on his way outside when there were two men that confronted him at the security gate at the house," she said.
"They immediately fired a shot, hitting him in the face."
The two men then managed to gain entry into the house, where more shots were fired. The man's girlfriend was then attacked by the men, who kicked and hit her, demanding to know where the keys to the safe were.
"The lady then took them to the safe. They fled the scene with two firearms, a plasma TV, some money, bank cards and two iPhones," Jacobs said.
"The ambulance was called and the victim was taken to hospital."
She said a team of detectives were working on the case, with trauma counselling arranged for the family.
