No sign of teens swept out to sea in Cape Town

Cape Town - Two 13-year-old boys from Elsies River who were swept out to sea were still missing on Tuesday, Western Cape police said.

"There is no new information regarding their whereabouts," Colonel Tembinkosi Kinana said.

The boys went missing at the Black River mouth in Paarden Eiland, Cape Town, on Sunday.

At the time, National Sea Rescue Institute spokesperson Craig Lambinon said five boys from Elsies River had been swept out to sea on a small floating barge of barrels.

"It appears that on realising that they were being swept too far into the sea, about 100 metres off-shore, they jumped off of the floating barrels to swim to shore," he said.

However, two of the children disappeared under water while the remaining three children, all aged 14, managed to reach the shore.

The three survivors were taken to hospital in a stable condition.

It was not known where the floating barge had come from and the police took it as part of their investigation.

On Monday, Lambinon said the families of the two boys had been traced and were receiving assistance.
