North West municipality under administration

Johannesburg - The Ngaka Modiri Molema district municipality in North West was placed under administration on Wednesday, the provincial local government department said.

"The provincial executive committee has resolved to place Ngaka Modiri Molema district municipality under administration with immediate effect," spokesperson Ben Bole said in a statement.

An administrator would be appointed to take over the municipality's executive functions for 12 months. The muncipality's seat is Mahikeng.

Bole said the municipality had experienced governance and administrative problems since 2011. These include failure to address audit disclaimers for the years 2011 to 2013, the non-payment of debt, and service delivery issues.

According to local government MEC Collen Maine, the municipality had failed to address transgressions, Bole said.

It's as if government does not know how embarrassed it should be at this disgraceful performance. It just carries on, as if this is normal Behaviour. Maybe that's the problem. Government does not know any better.

Maladministration! Maladministration! If people were actually being held responsible for their actions we wouldn't have such problems. Most people working in municipalities don't seems to understand that their corrupt ways have a direct impact on the lives of people,I mean the local government is the only sphere of government that is closest to the people. These people don't know what they are doing they have no regard for any legislature that governs local government. We especially people that are pursuing degrees that focus on local government and public admin need to come up with solutions to remedy the situations,we need to only judge our failing systems but be part of the solution.

Deployed cadres...nah, much like deployed thieves! All municipal administrations under the cANCer, have been run to the ground and Grahamstown comes to mind. Currently all towns under cANCer rule look like ghost towns, potholes, sewage flowing in the streets, dilapidated buildings, burst water pipes, filthy streets, illegal immigrants and many more..
