Johannesburg - The SA Police Service's crime intelligence offices in Mahikeng, in the North West, burnt down on Wednesday afternoon.
"It is alleged that employees were in the offices when one of them screamed in the corridor informing others that there was fire. According to the information, one of the members went to investigate and he saw smoke coming from one of the offices and rapidly spreading to others," spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone said.
"It is alleged that members ran outside and one of them called fire and emergency services."
The fire was extinguished after they arrived.
"At this stage, one member was reported injured on the hand while trying to break [the] fire extinguisher’s box glass to remove the key," he said.
"It is alleged that the building is completely burnt. The cause of the fire is unknown and an investigation into the matter continues."
Mokgwabone said police did not suspect foul play.
"We suspect it could be an electrical [fault]."
