Off-duty cop killed in supermarket robbery

Johannesburg - An off-duty policeman has been shot dead during a robbery at a supermarket in Pretorius Street, Kempton Park, Gauteng police said on Tuesday.

Three armed men held up the supermarket at around 18:30 on Monday and shot the 48-year-old detective warrant officer four times, Captain Doniah Mothutsane said.

The policeman was shot twice in the stomach and twice in the right thigh. He was stationed at Tembisa police station.

The robbers stole R5 000, 30 boxes of cigarettes and airtime vouchers.

No one had been arrested by Tuesday morning, Mothutsane said.
