Bloemfontein - A man was arrested after police discovered a drug lab in Bloemfontein at the weekend, Free State police said on Tuesday.
The lab was discovered after a police patrol came across a man who refused to give them any personal information, raising suspicion.
“Upon investigation it was discovered that he is a foreigner and did not have his papers with him,” police spokesperson Constable Peter Kareli said.
The police searched him and found a cellphone which led the police to further investigation in a house in Helicon Heights, Bayswater.
“There the police found a makeshift drug laboratory with empty chemical drums and two plastic bags containing white and brown powdery substance.
“Laboratory experts from Pretoria were summoned and it was confirmed that the drums contained chemicals used in the manufacturing of different drugs.”
Three plasma screens were also discovered with their serial numbers filed off as well as six cellphones.
The 28-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of suspected stolen property and manufacturing of narcotics.
He will appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court soon, said Kareli.
