Johannesburg - The Johannesburg metro police department nabbed a total of 438 alleged drunken drivers at roadblocks across the city on Saturday night.
Soweto had the highest number of drunken drivers with the figures coming in at 39, said Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
Midrand was second with 25 arrests followed by the Johannesburg CBD with 18.
In Roodepoort, 14 people were arrested while two others were held in Rosettenville, 12 on the M2 highway, 10 in Sandton and 18 in Eastgate.
Another two arrests were made by the K9 unit.
The Tracing Unit which covers activity on the freeways made 298 arrests.
All those arrested were released on bail of between R1 000 and R1 500, said Minnaar.
They were expected to appear in various courts this week.
