Bloemfontein - Allegations on social media that a Bloemfontein couple fed their children out of the same bowl as their dogs are untrue, the parents have said.
Three children were taken out of the custody of two separate families on Thursday by police and social workers, Netwerk24 reported on Monday.
The two families lived in separate park homes behind a well-known Bloemfontein bar not far from Raymond Mhlaba Street in the city.
The children, including two girls, aged 5-years and 3-months respectively, and a boy of 17-months, have been placed with foster parents.
Two of the children were allegedly physically and emotionally neglected.
The third child, who has Down's syndrome, was removed for safety concerns.
Claims denied
Allegations on social media claim the parents of the two girls had fed their children out of the same bowl that is used to feed dogs, a claim the parents strongly deny.
The husband and wife told Netwerk24 that they disagreed with the social worker’s decision to remove their children, and wanted more time to find a more appropriate living space.
The parents insisted they always took care of their children, and that they ate out of a plastic plate, and not a dog’s bowl.
The woman also told Netwerk24 that the reason the social workers removed the baby boy of the second family was due to the father’s arrest for stock theft. The mother was at home infrequently, leaving the boy unattended.
One of the social workers involved with the case told Netwerk24 that the proceedings are dealt with privately, and weren’t happy with the allegations circulating on social media.
