Cape Town - Parliament has placed five officials on precautionary suspension, it said in a statement on Tuesday.
The five officials from the committees section were placed on precautionary suspension pending an investigation into suspected irregularities in the procurement of services.
"The suspensions bear no relevance to the guilt or innocence of the officials concerned and are aimed solely at facilitating speedy and fair investigation into the alleged irregularities."
Parliament did not name the officials.
This comes barely a week after Parliament announced a re-vetting of its officials.
"Parliament’s security policy requires all employees to undergo vetting and all staff appointments are subject to positive security clearance," Parliament said on Friday.
Since then, the institution has been accused in media reports of using the process as a "witch-hunt to weed out those believed to be working against the presiding officers and the secretary to Parliament".
