Pedestrian dies in Cape Town accident

Johannesburg - A male pedestrian was hit and killed by a vehicle in Bonteheuwel, Cape Town, in the Western Cape on Monday, said paramedics.

Spokesperson for ER24 Vanessa Jackson said the accident occurred on the N2 highway just before the Vanguard Drive off-ramp.

"The man, in his late 20s, was found lying between the fast and middle lane of the highway... [He] was declared dead on scene," said Jackson.

The occupants of the vehicle that hit him were not injured in the incident.

Taking a chance cost him the ultimate price. I have on occasion watched these people and it is my opinion that they are often seriously deficient in depth perception, have very little concept of the equation involving speed , distance and time, and they don't recognise that they are not only placing themselves at risk, but the lives of motorists too. Some suggest loudhailer, perhaps............

The number of times we've had near misses within spitting distance of a bridge or overpass there is staggering. Bloody scary at night too, when some figure suddenly appears in the middle of the highway..
