Johannesburg - A pedestrian was killed when a car knocked him down on the N1 south near the Grasmere Toll Plaza, causing a taxi to roll injuring at least 12 people on Saturday night, paramedics said.
"When... paramedics and other services arrived on scene they found the pedestrian in the middle of the road," ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said.
"Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for him."
The man was declared dead.
The taxi, which was apparently trying to avoid the incident, overturned and was found several metres away from where the man was knocked down, Bodasing said.
"It was lying on its side."
People from the taxi were assessed and found to have minor to serious injuries.
They were transported to hospital.
