Cape Town - The father of a young man who was shot dead in the parking lot of a busy petrol garage in Cape Town is certain that his son’s killer “will get justice in this life and the next”.
Speaking to the Cape Argus after his son was buried, Ebrahiem Joseph said he wasn’t sure what led to the killing of Toufiq but whatever it was, the accused “didn’t have the right to kill”.
David Forbes, who is accused of killing the 24-year-old, spent another night in police cells on Monday but his lawyer was confident he would get bail, reported Eyewitness News.
His lawyer, Ross McKennan, said the defence had “played open cards with the State” and Forbes did not have any outstanding warrants or pending matters.
Forbes has previously been in trouble with the law. In 1996 he pleaded guilty to a charge of common assault and paid a fine, reported the Cape Times.
According to witnesses on Saturday, Forbes was seen shooting Toufiq in the parking area of the Engen garage on Orange Street.
Bystanders said after the shooting Forbes, a broad-shouldered, tattooed man, simply stood, drinking a Coca-Cola and smoking a cigarette while he waited for police.
Reports say the sale of tickets to a music festival may be at the heart of the killing. Forbes is an organiser to the event while Joseph was apparently selling tickets to it.
