Johannesburg - Police are keeping a close eye on an informal settlement near Lenasia on Monday after a violent protest over the removal of illegal electricity connections.
Eyewitness News reported on Friday that chaos broke out in Thembelihle informal settlement after City Power officials went to disconnect illegal electricity connections.
Angry residents barricaded roads, trashed the streets and burnt two substations.
Police say the streets are clean and open in the informal settlement, tweeted EWN reporter Mia Lindeque.
One person tweeted that there had been gunshots during the protest.
