Pretoria - An uprooted Stop sign, rocks and burnt tyres were lying scattered next to the side of a road in Soshanguve, north of Pretoria, on Thursday where protesters blocked roads in the morning.
Five municipal vehicles and a guardroom were burnt earlier at the municipal offices, north of Pretoria, allegedly by Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) employees who are unhappy about payments from the municipality.
About 20 people, wearing blue overalls, had gathered outside the offices. They were being addressed by what appeared to be a municipal official.
Five vehicles belonging to the city were burnt and one Tshwane Metro Police Department car's windows were damaged.

The rest of the vehicles belonging to the city were stoned and had been moved to another depot for safekeeping.
Four Tshwane Metro Police Department cars could be seen at the entrance of the municipal offices.
Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Matthews Nkoadi said police were alerted at 08:00. They were told that people from Block F were burning tyres and barricading roads leading to the offices.
"At the offices, windows of a number of buildings were smashed and the windows of one Metro Police vehicle were smashed. Five municipal vehicles were burnt, including a trailer, and the guardroom was burnt down," Nkoadi said.
No arrests have been made. Police have opened a case of public violence and are investigating.
They would continue to monitor the situation, he said.
