Johannesburg - Krugersdorp police are still investigating after a robbery at a well known funeral parlour in the West Rand town last week.
"We are encouraging the community to come forward with information," said spokesperson Lucky Matome of the brazen robbery last Friday.
Ramón Collins, general manager of Martin's Funerals off Voortrekker Road, told News24: "They caught all my staff members off guard. They used ties and strips of torn clothing and wanted laptops, which we don't keep here."
The robbers, one wielding a firearm, stripped staff of their personal jewellery, cellphones and the cash in their purses and wallets.
Collins said he had been out at the time and had phoned the office at the time of the robbery. When they did not answer, he immediately knew something was wrong.
He called again and when his colleague told him they had been robbed, he sped over to the office, relieved to find that nobody was injured.
"'We are all fine," said Collins. "I am just glad it did not happen with a client present. They are already going through so much trauma and grieving and then to have to go through that too."
No bodies are kept on the premises.
Anyone with any information about the robbery should call 08600 10111. They may do so anonymously.
