Port Elizabeth - An off duty police officer and a paramedic friend of his were shot and killed in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth, on Wednesday night.
Eastern Cape police spokesperson Brigadier Marinda Mills said the 39-year-old police sergeant from Mount Road police station had been visiting his friend, a paramedic, also 39, in New Brighton.
While details were still sketchy it is believed that an unknown number of assailants fired shots at them while they were standing outside the paramedic's residence.
"The police officer died on the scene and the paramedic passed away on his way to hospital," she said.
Mills said the motive for the attack was unknown at this stage.
