Pretoria - Putco on Friday confirmed that two of its buses were attacked near Mamelodi on Friday but there were no fatalities reported.
In a statement, Putco’s Managing Director, Franco Pisapia said five people had been hospitalised after their buses were shot at.
"Two passengers were wounded in the incident, including a female passenger who is in a serious condition. One driver (who is currently being treated for shock) and two other passengers sustained minor injuries," Pisapia said in a statement.
It was earlier reported that the bus was allegedly shot at by four men in a car about 5km from the intersection of Solomon Mahlangu Drive and Pretoria Road, leaving the bus driver dead.
The shooting comes amid chaos in the Pretoria township as taxi operators refused to allow Autopax to operate in the area.
Autopax had taken over after Putco announced that it will not be renewing contracts in the Tshwane, Ekurhuleni and Sedibeng municipalities.
Putco said the buses which were attacked on Friday morning, were however, not travelling on the affected routes.
They had been travelling from Mpumalanga on Nellmapius road outside Mamelodi.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the persons injured and we wish them a speedy recovery. The safety of our passengers is our main concern and until the situation in the area is normalised, Putco buses will make use of alternative routes," said Pisapia.
